The Shipwrights Arms was possibly built in 1867. The pub was demolished in the early 1960’s when the surrounding area was redeveloped to make way for a housing estate.
At nearby Shoreham Port, ship building had been a major activity since the 14th century when it supplied ships to Edward III for his fight against the French. It is said Charles I made his escape from Shoreham Port to France in 1651. The port was also one of the departure points for the D-day landings in Normandy in 1944.
In the late 1920’s, Blaster T. E. Morley was probably related to the landlord James Morley.
